I've already taught an advanced version, so this is a straight ahead melody lesson, but with HARMONY! This is so fun! And, it dovetails with the corresponding guitar lesson, so that the harmonies work for either instrument.

    My fingers know it but my brain doesn't yet — I can't play it without the tab in front of me. How do you all commit these to memory?

    Try it without the pick for a few passes. Sounds silly but it told me my right hand was doing too much.

    Try measure 3 on its own at half tempo, and keep your right hand rolling even when the left hand is behind. The right hand is the metronome.

    That's the one that made me finally understand backup. Stick with it.

    Recording yourself is humbling but it's the fastest fix I've found.
